Search Engines and Your Site

If you want advice from people who have been doing this since Lycos and AltaVista were top search engines and Google hadn't been invented, you've come to the right place.

Search engine submissions are important to many (but not all) companies with websites. Many sites also benefit greatly from other strategies, such as a reciprocal links program and joined-up marketing that ensures effective advertising for the site on other literature etc., which we'll happily advise upon.

Getting your site to the top of the listings can be painted as a laborious process but, these days, the search engine companies have done a lot to weed out the link spammers, so that genuine sites can rise to the top by following some fairly simple rules, the most important of which are:

  • Make sure your title tag is concise, accurate and tailored to each specific page
  • Make sure your description tag is concise, accurate and tailored to each specific page
  • Properly organise your content, particularly in respect of header tags
  • Make sure your content and tags tie together
  • Don't overstep the mark and do anything that makes your legitimate site look like an exercise in search engine gaming
