Search engine submissions are important to many (but not all) companies with websites. Many sites also benefit greatly from other strategies, such as a reciprocal links program, ensuring effective advertising for the site on other literature etc., which we'll happily advise upon.
It's also a laborious process if you want to pursue a strategy that has a chance of getting you to the top of the listings. (For starters, did you know that regular resubmissions are important?) You're more than welcome to pay us to do it but there'll be no guarantees and we'd rather you didn't anyway, because we have a better idea.
Our friends at Scubaway were contacted by a company called Search Engineers and asked me to check them out. Their site said this:
If we have a new brochure designed and printed we do not expect our printer to help us advertise and distribute that brochure, we talk to a specialist marketing company. The Search Engineers are the search engine specialists. We do not create websites, provide hosting or sell domain names. We just get sites to the top of the search engines - day in, day out.
We wholeheartedly agree with the first bit and the sales spiel turns out to be just as accurate - if you'd like to see how effective their work is, go and search for 'worldwide diving holidays' on Google, Lycos or any other of the top search engines (or any of their other nine search terms). Then take a mo to reflect on how many diving holiday companies are competing for those ratings. We're impressed and strongly recommend them to you.
Then consider this - the site that appears near the top of the listings is the mirror we host - Scubaway is a company that ceased trading over a year ago and our mirror is still placed in the top ten for that search!!
Search Engineers have recently been taken over by Business Serve and their business is going through the roof. Unsurprisingly, the former owners of Scubaway are using them again for their new company...
Are we doing ourselves out of work here? Not really, we don't think - you get good rankings, you'll like your site all the more.
